Down side to letting mom's raise there baby's...

They make rookie mistakes...
This is the little black baby that was under Flakes the Frizzle. I am afraid she, or one of the other hens, might not have known what the little hatchling was at first and so attacked it.
This poor fella was skinned down its side, though thankfully its muscle and tissue is all still intact.
I called the vet *Dont laugh, but yes I have a poultry vet* who said that the chick should be fine as long as I put a special cream on it every day and make sure its eating and drinking.
I have taught it successfully how to eat and drink so I think we are good.
The other upside is that the baby is VERY active and healthy. The vet thinks that with a bit of T.L.C. it should make a speedy recovery and regrow all of its skin.

As for the other chicks, I have made the decision to leave them with there moms, and thankfully so far nothing else bad has happened. The moms has wised up, and they have become 10 times more protective then ever.
I also have three newly hatched chick under Partidge, and the last two eggs have pipped and are soon to hatch! Hopefully by the time I get home! :D

Please keep your fingers crossed that everyone stays alive T_T

The fall of mighty king Roopert...

Well...The mighty king Roopert has fallen. As it sometimes happens I guess, Roopert turned mean. Not towards me, but towards his own girls. He chased them down to breed them every chance he got, drew blood during breeding, and killed one of our meat birds...
Sadly he had to be placed in a different flock and removed from ours, the theory being that he just needed more hens. If it does not work they will stew pot him, hopefully Mr. Roopert will relax.

He has been replaced by Mr. B.B. *Mr. Beautiful Buddy*

And my Mr. Rudy:
Who I hatched in January.

So far everyone seems to be doing fine, pecking order is settling itself out, and so far the girls are happy again. Mr. B.B is very polite to his ladies. Mr. Rudy is still growing up, hasn't even started crowing yet!
But thats ok, im sure the neighbors are happy about that haha.

Sarge's garden!

So far he has three veggie gardens planted!
The community garden has been attacked with a vengeance with corn, squash, beans, watermelon, potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers...
You name it Sarge has planted it!!!
We did however run into a problem with Caterpillars. They have taken a rather annoying liking to our lettuce...
But, all we had to do was let the chickens run threw the garden for a tiny bit and whalla! No more bugs! It was worth loosing a few leaves to the chickys hehe.
The Garlic and Onions are doing great and we should be able to pull them soon.
Sarge also planted his birthday present, a peach tree :D and next year were hoping to be able to get a second tree.
So far that is all, I'll make sure to remember pictures for next time!

Baby's!!

So, you all remember the broody's right?
Here's Missy, *For some reason shes sideways*

And here is her fuzzy little baby!
Its a Roopert Bug cross, which makes it a pure Buff Orphington! If shes a girl I might just keep her ^^ But after Roopert...Ill explain in a separate post what happened with him.
Here is Partridge!
Every single one of her eggs are hatching!

Here is Flakes, my Frizzle:

And her baby's! These are a Mr. Bo-Bo surprise! I dont know who's eggs came from who so this is exciting!  And we have a Roopert Silver egg :D The other two are pipped!

As a side note, Broody poop is really really gross...Ill be cleaning there box's as soon as all of the baby's are dry. The big bits are all gone *ewww* but the tiny bits are still hanging around.
Downside of hatching: Broody pooh...

Garden greens

Sarges garden is coming along great so far!
We now have two fig trees in the kitchen, along with a peach tree!
The mealy bugs seem to be attacking his figs though, hes going to try and use this organic spray that supposed to help with fungus and bugs.
Soon, thanks to All Hill Farm up the road, we will have Currents, and Goose Berrys! Not to mention a wonderful brand new raspberry patch :D Rich really is great, and he does everything he can to help out Sarge. Its really sweet!!

Excellent news!

The Duke has been found!!!
I was able to sneak up on him and catch him at nightfall the little bugger!
Now he is happily breeding his lady Frost (The show girl)
However, the down side of raising chickens has struck...Dealing with Broodys...
Say hello to Flakes,

Missy,

And Partridge.

From the looks of things, im going to have to let them hatch out eggs and be moms. To bad I dont have any purbreds to give them. Oh well, Roopert, Mr. Bo-Bo, and thr Duke get to be daddys! :D
